In 1983, there was a grassroots movement to establish a music series that would fill a gaping hole in the rural art community, specifically that of jazz and folk music. Out of that movement evolved the Sugarloaf Music Series. It’s been going strong ever since, hosting music events throughout much of the county and facilitating free concerts and workshops in the local school districts. Sugarloaf Music’s new venue is the state-of-the-art Lycian Performing Arts Center, http://www.lyciancentre.com, in Sugar Loaf, NY. The 2006-2007 season is its most ambitious series ever augmenting its jazz concerts with Blues, Folk and Latin Jazz. Sugarloaf Music has presented a veritable Who’s Who in jazz and folk music over the years---2006-2007 promises to be no different. Celebrate Sugarloaf Music and 23 years of Jazz and World Music at the Lycian in Sugar Loaf, NY. "Having performed for the Sugarloaf Music Series, I can honestly say that this organization has an impeccable history of constantly bringing the highest quality jazz to rural upstate New York communities.”
